BANGALORE: According to the IT employees of a trade union, New Democratic Labour Front (NDLF), Syntel, Nasdaq listed and U.S. based IT company, is sacking its Indian employees and has plans to terminate 3000 workers in the near future.

Reportedly, the IT organization by now has fired hundreds of employees from its Pune, Mumbai and Chennai offices without providing the applicable notice period, reports Trak.in

20 of the allegedly terminated employees came to the trade union seeking help, said NDLF to media houses. These dismissed employees don’t want to be named as of now.

 “Syntel has planned and is enforcing layoff of 3,000 employees. This has been going on for the past one month and thousands have already lost their jobs,” according to the press release.

Syntel, having a market value of $1.22 bn, presently employs 24,534 workers across the globe and has 17 delivery centers located in U.S. and India.

The company reportedly earned a profit of $40mn in the March quarter which 40 percent lesser to profit acquired for December. Syntel accelerated in the global market with its affluent clients like General Motors and some U.S. government undertakings. The company is presently has Indians at top designations with Bharat Desai as Chairman and Nitin Rakesh as CEO.

Syntel defended itself against the allegations, Rakesh Save, HR head, said the underperforming employees were sacked in accordance with the company regulations. “As part of Syntel’s annual evaluation process, few employees who have not performed to these expectations were released. The numbers reported are speculative and do not represent facts on the ground,” he added.

However, the trade union has still upheld the protest against the IT company.

 “Our union strongly condemns this illegal and unethical labour practice by Syntel. IT employees should also be able to protect their rights through a labour body, just like workers of other sectors,” said S Karpagavinayagam, organizer, NDLF.

This is the second time that NDLF is coming forward for an employee cause. The union had also stood up against the Indian IT biggie, TCS, for terminating thousands of employees on the ground of poor performance. 

NDLF has appealed to the state government for the Syntel case to take a step against these forceful dismissals.
