New Delhi: The workers engaged in services sector are better paid than their counterparts in trade and manufacturing in urban as well as in rural areas, said a Government survey. "The annual emolument per hired workers ( EPHW) was highest for enterprises engaged in other services which was estimated as 40,861, 57,041 and 52,281 in rural, urban and rural-urban combined areas respectively," said the National Sample Survey Organistion ( NSSO) study on unicorporated non-agriculture enterprises during July 2010- June 2011. According to survey, a person engaged in manufacturing sector in urban area was getting an annual average emolument of 48,768 followed by manufacturing ( 48,768) and trade ( 47,060). At the all-India level, an urban worker employed in unincorporated enterprise was getting an annual emolument of 51,603. However, the person engaged in similar activity in rural areas was getting only 36,362 per annum. Taking together both urban and rural workers, the average annual emolument at the national level worked out to be 47,020. The survey further revealed that the annual gross value addition by the such enterprises during the year ending June 2011 worked out to be 6.28 lakh crore. While the overall contribution of urban enterprises in the gross value addition was 68 percent, rural enterprises accounted for only 32 percent. It further said that the gross value addition per worker in rural areas was 37,241 as compared to a high of 78,527 in urban areas.
