Mumbai: In what will perhaps be the largest recruitment drive since Tech Mahindra acquired Satyam Computer last year, the IT firm plans to hire more than 4,000 employees by May, reports Wall Street Journal.
Satyam will hire about 2,000 fresh graduates by March and about 2,000 experienced staff by May. The firm currently employs about 30,000 staff. The fresh graduates among the new hires will mainly be from among the 7,000 who received offers from Satyam before the scandal came to light.
Confirming the recruitment of the fresh graduates, Hari T, Satyam's Chief People Officer, told Dow Jones Newswires that it is aimed at "meeting ongoing business needs and for the future."
In a bid to reduce costs, Mahindra Satyam had earlier cut salaries and placed staff not working on billable projects on forced leave, which the company called the "virtual pool."
The company is now recovering from the fraud and the impact of the global meltdown and Hari said that the company has already recalled about 3,000 people from the 8,000 placed on forced leave. "We still have about 2,000 in the virtual pool. About 3,000 to 4,000 from the pool have quit over the last seven to eight months," he added.
