Real Fact: Only 11 Pct Private Engineering College Grads Can Readily Get Jobs
BENGALURU: Although engineering grads are the most sought after when it comes to hiring, it doesn’t look so when you dig deep and take up a survey. According to a recent survey by an assessment and campus hiring platform, only 11 percent students from private engineering colleges can be readily employed, while over 40 percent of their counterparts in government colleges can make the cut. Though it might change lot of mindsets this is the real fact you need to digest, reports TNN.
The survey which was conducted over 18 months with close to 1 lakh youngsters revealed that around 70 percent of them were IIT graduates, but only 55 percent of them were ready to take up job. Among NIT graduates, only 22 percent were readily employable and while the other 13 percent could only be recruited after training. Furthermore it was said that male graduates were more readily recruited with 14 percent than their female counterparts with 11 percent.
Even when it came to aptitude test scores, the IITians scored well past the NITs and other engineering colleges with 74 percent against 54 percent and 49 percent respectively. Among the tests the IITians fared the best in quantitative test, wherein, students of other colleges scored the lowest. The survey also revealed that students in Delhi followed by Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata had better cognitive skills as compared to those from other cities, while Hyderabad graduates score the lowest.
Harpreet Grover, founder of CoCubes, the firm which conducted the survey said, "The survey would give an insight to the colleges on where they need to improve and help the employers pick students from the right institutes."
