Railways to Explore Out-of-turn Promotions for Olympic Winners

New Delhi: Congratualting wrestler Sushil Kumar and other sportspersons for winning medals at London Olympics, Railway Minister Mukul Roy today asked the Railway Board to consider giving out-of-turn promotions to railway sportspersons who brought glory at the mega event.
"I have asked the Railway Board to explore possibilities of giving out-of-turn promotions to the railway sportspersons who have excelled at London Olympics 2012," Roy said while felicitating railway sportspersons for their performance in recent Olympics.
There were 12 sportspersons from the Railways in the 83-strong Indian continegent who participated in the London Olympics.
While Sushil Kumar, who won a silver medal in wrestling, was given a cash award of Rs 75 lakh, Joydeep Karmakar, who got fourth position in the final in shooting, Krishna Punia, who finished seventh in the final in discus throw, were given Rs 25 lakh cash award each.
Recognizing the commitment and contribution of coaches, the Railway Minister also announced an award of Rs 1 lakh each for Satpal, coach of Sushil Kumar, Sunny Thomas, coach of Joydeep Karmakar and Virender Punia, coach of Krishna Punia.
