Pre-Placement Jumps up to 50 Pct at IITs, Compensation Tops 1 Crore

BANGALORE: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have witnessed a rise of up to 50pct in pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) in comparison to the previous year.  This news is said to do a great deal of good for students, for there will be a higher rate of them holding jobs way before the  final placements commence in December, reports ET.

In September last year, IIT Madras had obtained only 35 PPOs in comparison to this year which has come close to 50. IIT Bombay has obtained 123 PPOs till date surpassing the count of last year’s at 110. IIT Kanpur has acquired 90 which are 24 more than the total seen last year. Furthermore, quite a few investment banking and financial services companies have returned to the IIT campuses after a gap of two years or more. These companies include Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan and Barclays at Madras and Kharagpur.

Although startups and Ecommerce companies continue to remain as their largest recruiters, many others are also making their appearance known-this includes Capital One and Credit Suisse at IIT Bombay. So far the highest compensation is facebook with an estimation level of Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.5 crore per year.
 The top recruiters for this year through PPOs at the IITs are Samsung India, Microsoft, Adobe, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Flipkart, and Strand Life Sciences.

Many first time companies that are visiting campuses offering PPOs include Texas Instruments  and JSW Group, Bentley Systems India, JSW Group, American Express and Axsiom at IIT-BHU (Banaras Hindu University), Innoplexus Consulting Services, Fuzzy Logix,  Quetzal Online and Glow Homes.

Sashank Vandrangi of the IIT Madras student placement committee said, "Many startups run by alumni are coming to our campuses and students are more than eager to join them."

Based on their performances, companies offer pre-placements to interns soon after their internships come to an end, in August. This continues all the way up to December 1st as the final placement season commences.
