Potential Women Offered Fewer Critical Jobs: Study

Bangalore: Presently, due to the poor accountability to diversity in organizations all around the world, even high potential women are offered fewer hot jobs in terms of visible projects, mission critical roles and international experience, as reported by Shreya Biswas of ET Bureau on The Economic Times.

According to the new Catalyst report women’s representations continue to be meager at senior levels, in spite of numerous succession planning practices, leadership development courses, mentoring, multi-rater feedback mechanism and other high-potential programs that are incorporated among  organizations.

“The previous study of the Catalyst revealed that the gender gap in level and pay at high potential careers starts early and grows over time” says Christine Silva, Senior Director of the Catalyst. It also revealed that the gender gap was not due to lack of ambition among women or maternity leaves.  “It was due the fact that though men and women followed same career progression strategies, it paid off for men than women” Christine Silva added.

Several progressive organizations disagree that women are treated shabbily and offered fewer hot jobs, and claim that they have taken numerous steps to close the gender gap. It is a well know fact that the steps towards closing gender gap is a long term journey.
