No Takers For MCA Courses

BANGALORE: Not everyone can be an engineer or a doctor and parents must understand this. Earlier, parents had a common notion that their child will be either an engineer or a doctor, which has now become a passé. Even though the number of engineering colleges and the allied coaching centers spread across the country is proof of the rage that existed, a recent report from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) shows the traditional trend wrong.

MCA admissions through the Integrated Common Entrance Test counseling are in dire conditions with the numbers of students opting the course are falling every year. The global economic crisis had previously led to colleges to step back in accepting students but now they don’t even receive enough applications. For instance, last year around 12 institutions running MCA and another 11 engineering colleges with IT specialization in the Chennai region wanted to close down and this trend is continuing this year too.

The AICTE reveals the shocking trend of decline in the number of students opting for technical courses like MCA forcing several colleges to either shut down or reduce the number of seats drastically. Andhra Pradesh leads in this shut shop business closely followed by Bhopal, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. As many as 80 institutes are expected to file for closure and other courses that are in the danger zone are pharmacy, MBA, B.Ed and D.Ed.
