Bangalore: With an aim to create employment in the rural parts of Karnataka, the Govt. of Karnataka is trying to get MNCs to establish BPOs in rural parts of Karnataka. The problem which is hindering this initiative is the poor resource pool and quality of labour, reports Rashmi Menon of Deccan Herald.
It has been found that out of 20 proposals sanctioned, only 16 are operational at present. "One of the major problems the entrepreneurs faced that we found was that the manpower resource pool was not up to the mark. As a result, it took more than the required time to train the local people," said Ashis Nayak, one of the team members, who studied about the viability of setting up rural BPOs.
Some BPOs picked up quite easily, whereas others took a lot of time because the talent and ability of manpower in some places were limited. In a study conducted by five students from Indian Institute of Bangalore (IIM-B), where the students had to figure out the viability of setting up rural BPOs with certain facilities provided, certain solutions to this concern has been provided. The team from IIM-B has suggested that, there should be flexibility in subsidy depending on the performance of the BPO, flexibility in in-take of manpower and a centralized body should be set up to monitor these BPOs.
"The department should also help BPOs in getting one or two projects initially. For instance, the government could make use of these BPOs in transferring 2011 census and UID data into digital format," added Nayak.
