No plans of mobile phones, so no need of engineers: Mindtree

Bangalore: IT services company; Mindtree has decided not to manufacture mobile phones since the company felt that the risk involved in manufacturing mobile handsets was high. With this decision the company has also sent 30 engineers home who had been hired for this purpose before. In fact, the company had plans of investing about $11 million into the development of phones.
Krishnakumar Natarajan, MindTree CEO and Managing Director said "These people found other jobs because there is enormous demand for such people in the product business. Those who didn't want to work in the services line decided to find other options."
After acquiring Kyocera's India R & D centre in October 2009, Mindtree went ahead and invested about $5 million into the venture but later realized that t needed substantial amount of funds to make it a successful.
Mindtree had also planned to launch 3G smartphones based on Google's Android platform in the U.S.
