Mumbai University May Allow 2 Graduate Courses At Same Time

Bangalore: The University of Mumbai has decided to allow its students to take up two full time courses simultaneously. This has turned out to be an advantage for the youngsters who were finding it tough to choose which graduate stream to enroll in till date as they were suppose to choose only one course at a time, reports Hemali Chaplia from The Economic Times.

S K Ukrande, Dean [Technology] at the Mumbai University told that they feel there are several students who want to just do an engineering program or a BA or a specialized B.Com course. Many of them may have more than one passion they want to pursue and that is backed by potential too. The University has now given an opportunity to those students to take up two courses at the same time.

Ukrande, who was appointed by the university after its academic council, was considering a proposal that would permit students to study two degree programs at the same time. The report which was submitted to the university has given green single to students to go ahead to sign up for two programs. Before this over all idea to get implemented, it must be finally approved by the academic council and the management council.

The report also stated that the students can choose two degrees at a time and can enroll for both as a full time student. The students have the opportunity to take up one full time course and can sign up simultaneously for the other course through distance education or can take up one graduation program and another as a certificate or diploma course, the option which was always available.

Ukrande also noted that, students have to be eligible for both the courses and meet the attendance requirements for both of them and students also must make sure that they need to inform both the colleges if they enroll in two different institutions, about the courses they are pursuing. If this over all idea gets popularity, in future we can also see colleges running a second shift, allowing students to generously space their day’s learning.
