MBA aspirants in India snub U.S. B-schools

Mumbai: Till 2009, India was ahead of China but in the year 2010, Chinese students have outnumbered their Indian contemporaries. It is not that Indian students are getting incompetent but they have found qualitative B-schools in their own country, reports Anahita Mukherji of the Times of India. This year, U.S. B-schools have not received the maximum number of GMAT scores from India. "There's been a growing interest in the local market among Indian management aspirants, with high-quality programmes being offered in India. They are now seeing tremendous opportunity in their own economy and in Indian degrees,'' said Ashok Sarathy, Vice-President, GMAT Programme. In 2010, over 17,000 Indians had sent their GMAT scores to Indian institutions. At the same time, around 1,700 GMAT scores from China were sent to B-schools in China. Number of Indians applying to Indian management institutions has risen by four times. This year, around 17,000 Indians have applied for B-schools in India which is quite a great figure compared to 4,900 students, who had applied in 2005.
