Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government has tied up with IT solutions provider Mastek for introducing an e- scholarship scheme, which would enable easy delivery of post- matric scholarships to students through banks, a State Government Minister said. Under the scheme, the colleges would directly deposit scholarship money in the bank accounts of the students through electronic clearance service (ECS).
"The e-scholarship scheme would do away with the manual procedure of disbursement of post-matric scholarships by colleges to the beneficiaries, as the money would be deposited directly in the banks accounts of the students," State Minister for Social Justice, Shivajirao Moghe, told reporters here today.
Earlier, colleges used to disburse the scholarship money to the beneficiaries. "We had, however, observed certain irregularities in the procedure. With the solution coming into place, the students will get their money on time," Moghe said.
The scheme would benefit nearly 32 lakh students by speeding up the application process, sanctioning and disbursal procedure of the Government's post-matric scholarships for SC, OBC, VJ/NT and SBC class students. Under the scheme, colleges would open accounts for students in nationalised banks, Mastek's Head-India and APAC, Vilas Kanyal, said.
