Long Working Hours Keeps India Inc Connected

Bangalore: As working for long hours is definitely a hard task for many professionals, it has been figured out that, an increasing number of Indian employees are working for long hours than the normal time at office. No doubt the professionals working in various Indian firms are feeling that they are under pressure to stay connected with their work every time. This fact has been revealed through a recent survey by Kelly Services, a global recruitment firm, was shared exclusively with the Times of India. The increase in number of smartphones and internet usage has contributed immensely for this new trend that is growing day by day. It was also founded through that survey that, about 55 percent of the employees spend up to five hours in a week by being connected to their work even after their working hours. So, if 55 percent of the employees spent five hours extra on their work after their working hours, it was reported that 16 percent of them spent 6-10 hours and 18 percent of the professionals work for an extra ten hours every week.

Kamal Karanth, Managing Director, Kelly Services India, reported that, this trend has been picked up in a higher pace across the mid-to-senior level as the companies feel that these employees have the capacity to impact the productivity of the organization directly and are engaged majorly into lot of business critical roles. Nevertheless, this concept is also flexible in some ways as it helps you to bring in a better work-life balance too.

61 percent of the employees across India Inc said the use of mobile technologies has improved their work competence and output. But almost 35 percent of employees also complained that this concept has increased the fatigue and burnout level for them.
