A group does not follow a title; they track someone who has earned their faith and stimulated them to action. Successful leaders gain their power from their followers, and with that comes massive responsibility. Ill-treat that authority or fall short to live up to that responsibility and you grind down the trust. Lacking trust, your possible followers will never believe your vision, let alone embrace it.
Intended for followers to trust you, they must consider what you say and see you take reliable action.
Trust is a vital part of the leadership equation. It is significant to keep in mind that though it takes months or years to ascertain, it can be lost in an instant and is extremely hard to re-establish.
