Job Seekers Go Creative To Knock Doors Of Startups

BANGALORE: So how many hours did you actually invest to make a so called picture perfect resume? While your college advised for tables, the local counselor told bullets- remember the simple things that were so difficult to decide on?

Well, the process still continues. As your experience and performances go up, your resume requires alterations and changes.

As Vivek Madhukar, COO, Timesjobs.com says, “Out-of-the-box resumes are indeed a good way to attract an employer's attention.”

A recent survey conducted by the TimesJobs.com shows that 58percent of employers consider the traditional method of resumes outdated.

Tech savvy youths and more job opportunities- in the world of competition all struggles to get placed with the best pay and designation. Now resumes are more colorful filled with pictorials and info graphics to make it easy to understand for the recruiters. Some examples of the recent ways of presenting talents and skills in resumes are:

A candidate applying in price comparison portal MySmartPrice wrote, “Solving problems like badly entangled ipod earphones are among the things I'm superb at.”

A candidate, who was hired in reality, placed a link to his own site so that recruiters could read about him. The resume had few lines like, “insert lies here: Give me a task related to digital marketing, social media, writing, and I'll get it done. Just give me some coffee." In this resume, under 'Next Job Role', he said: "A really lucky company/organization."

Delhi university student Harneh Sachdeva recently applied in an online website Cashkaro with the resume subject line as “Application from an unemployed.” With this he added, how he was unemployed, how he intended to be employed, his plans and more. The words and phrases did not end his resume. He added a Youtube link to it featuring himself dressed as Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and telling people about Cahskaro.com.

Sachdeva got hired in Cashkaro almost after two months wait though the company hardly had vacancies then. He is currently working with the marketing and operations team.

Cashkaro.com Co-Founder Swati Bhargava comments, “His attention to detail was impressive. He wore an American Swan jumper which was a best-selling product on CashKaro.com at that time. He had Kejriwal's scarf, cough syrup, and the works.”

Start ups like TinyOwl, Cashkaro, Housing and Jombay also agree that the approaches in resumes have witnessed a wide spread innovation including a cover letter drafted as an imaginary note to a future husband which actually reflect the candidate’s future plans.

Regarding this fusion resumes penetrating the start up world, brand consultant Harish Bijoor comments, "Startups are fun and irreverent environments. Targeting them with the staid resume is becoming a part of the clutter. Therefore, in comes the quirky resume, the colourful resume and the senatorial resume."

Mumbai-based startup co-founder Tanuj Khandelwal hired a candidate whose resume was a video where he answered all the probable questions that he expected to be inquired about.
