Jindal Global University Awarded Diamond Rating by QS I- GAUGE

QS-I-GAUGE, an independent private-sector initiative specialized in rating colleges and universities awarded an overall DIAMOND rating to O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) after a rigorous audit spanning over six months. The audit resulted in the much coveted and the highest possible rating in six areas viz Teaching and Learning, Employablity, Facilities, Social Responsibility, Accreditation and Entrepreneurship. Remarkably, it is the youngest university in India to receive both the accolades. Furthermore, the institution has also been in the band of 251-300 in the 2018 edition of QS BRICS University Rankings released last November.

Ashwin Fernandes, CEO, QS I- GAUGE, says, “Indian students choosing where to study are increasingly likely to be persuaded by a university’s standing in rankings and ratings. Rankings provide a rank, but students now want to get deeper insights into what areas a university excels in, so that besides curriculum he or she can find co-curricular activities of their interest or even estimate their future path after graduation. Hence, rankings and ratings are now becoming an integral area of focus for Indian universities”.

Being a non-profit global university established by the Government of Haryana and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), O.P Jindal Global University (JGU) is a research intensive university which deeply committed to its core institutional values. JGU’s achievement is something to be highly appreciated as the university made its debut in the QS BRICS University Rankings only last November. Last decade saw tremendous growth in JGU as eight different schools in Law, Business, International Affairs, Public Policy, Liberal Arts, Journalism, Architecture and Banking & Finance were opened to establish them as a multidisciplinary research oriented university. However, the rating is valid for three years and it is subject to a re-audit as per an updated methodology at that time.

Commenting on the accolade, Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Chancellor, JGU, says, “This is indeed a wonderful recognition. We are truly humbled by the fact that all what we have been doing in the last decade has come to fruition in this manner. International rankings of universities have created new opportunities for Indian universities to aspire towards seeking excellence. The paradigm shift in the Indian higher education system is being promoted through efforts to create world class universities in both the public and the private sector.”

Headquartered in London, Quacquarelli Symonds introduced Indian rating framework QS I-GAUGE in March. It clubs in global expertise, experience and reputation of QS, along with the insights of luminaries from Indian higher education. It was brought to India to aid the growing uncertainty in the current rating and ranking assessments by the private sector. Ratings follow stringent global standards for evaluation of an institution for the dynamic landscape of Indian higher education.
