Bangalore: Frequent job hoppers might find this news a bad one. IT companies in India are now turning severe regarding the notice periods of their employees. The companies ask their employees to serve the full notice period to make sure that business activities are not exaggerated by unexpected deficiency of manpower.
The data provided by TeamLease Services, a staffing company, shows many companies have heaved the duration of the notice period. A few have also excluded the option of notice period by-out. A report by Times of India says that by-out is a practice taken up by the organizations where the employees need to pay off required money to their current firm and join the new one immediately. Though this trend was into practice for over a year now, it has strengthened over the past few months as the companies are getting tougher on notice periods, said Surabhi Mathur Gandhi, senior VP at TeamLease. According to her, the junior and the mid level staff will be affected the most as the notice period of employees at VP level and above as it has always been higher.
The data provided by TeamLease illustrates that the technology chief Accenture shifted to a 90 days' notice period from 60 days earlier this year. Though the company did not answer any of the queries on extension period, some companies did confirm that they have extended their notice periods, says the article.
TCS too is said to have lengthened its notice period from 30 days to 60 days, whereas Fujitsu expanded the notice period from 60 to 90 days. The provision of notice period buyout was prohibited by both the companies.
