Approach your boss to set up a meeting
Tell him you want to discuss your work situation and how to improve the communication between you and him. Ask him what he expects of you, and then tell him what you need in terms of support, direction and feedback. Don't be aggressive; approach him in a way that it won't hurt his ego, and make him understand that you respect him and need his guidance.
