Bangalore: Following the onset of recession, the Human Resources (HR) departments in companies have gained more importance, as managing the number of employees has become the prime factor to control costs. "In such a scenario, bringing more innovation into human resource management can help organizations to be more efficient and productive," said Aniruddha Limaye, Director, Great Place to Work Institute, India.
Limaye suggests that only benchmarking and learning from best practices of others may not completely help an organization. "Doing what is most appropriate for your own organization can lead to a more impactful innovation and that requires a shift in thinking more than anything else. Research shows that most great workplaces around the world follow unique paths to be on their journey to greatness, said Limaye while speaking at the Bangalore HR Summit 2009.
Limaye highlighted that there are basically three sources to bring innovation in HR. The first set of innovations can be brought out by recognizing the importance of consultation and collaboration with employees and line managers by the management, in formulating practices and policies. The second source of innovation in HR is by focusing on results and getting data on employee performance and analyzing it. The third source is technology, but Limaye cautions that with only technology relevant results cannot be achieved. "HR departments should use technology along with the two other sources to bring innovation in their practice," he adds.
