New Delhi: In signs of global economic troubles affecting Indian firms, IT bellwether Infosys today said it has extended the joining time of new recruits to June 2013 but emphasised there is no freeze on campus placement drives.
"The high volumes of campus hires joining us this time round, is contributing to a longer on-boarding period for us. Like always, we will honour all our offers," an Infosys spokesperson said in statement.
The spokesperson, however, added that the company will continue to hire fresh engineering graduates this financial year.
"There is no freezing on hiring. We will continue to go campuses and hire people," the spokesperson said.
Infosys had made around 28,000 offers at the campus placements during the August-September period last year.
The graduates who were offered jobs have started to receive joining dates from September this year to mid-2013.
"Based on business imperatives and manpower requirements, we expect our on-boarding of fresh hires to be completed by Q1 FY14," the spokesperson added.
While announcing the Q4 results of last fiscal, Infosys had said it would recruit 35,000 people this financial year, including 13,000 for its BPO operations.
The $ 100 billion software industry is battling slowing demand from U.S. and European clients, intense competition from rivals and volatile currency.
Due to global slowdown, the Bangalore-based software exporter failed to meet its own revenue estimates for Q4 of the last fiscal.
The company had also warned of challenging times ahead for the software industry and gave a lower-than-expected revenue growth forecast for this fiscal.
For FY'13, the company had given a revenue guidance in the range of $ 7,553 million to $ 7,692 million, a y-o-y growth of 8-10 percent. This is much lower than industry body Nasscom's annual estimate of 11-14 percent growth for the fiscal.
