9. Jamia Millia Islamia

Established in 1920, Delhi based Jamia Millia Islamia University is an institution which was born out of a political crisis and as a political affront against the British raj in the country.

This university was set up by the nationalist Muslim leaders in British India and it was established with a view to project Indian Muslims as nationalist and anti British.         

The growth story of Jamia from a relatively small institution in British ravaged India to a premier central university located in the heart of the country offering education of the finest quality is a tale of devotion, conviction and vision of people who fought against all odds to see it grow step by step. Sarojini Naidu, the nightingale of India once said that founders of this renowned institution “built Jamia stone by stone and sacrifice by sacrifice”.
