India to Renew Agreement on Higher Education with Canada
NEW DELHI: Recognizing the potential of collaboration between higher education institutions, the Cabinet gave its nod for renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Canada for cooperation in the sector.
The Cabinet also gave its ex-post facto approval for signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) among BRICS countries on BRICS Network University.
An official statement released said that a MoU between India and Canada on cooperation in Higher Education was signed in June, 2010 for a period of five years.
As per terms of the MoU, at the end of the five years, the MoU was to be renewed for a possible renewal for a further five year period.
Recognizing the potential of collaboration between Higher Education Institutions of Canada and India and to further develop bilateral relations in this field, it has been proposed to renew the MoU, the statement added.
In another statement related to the MoU among BRICS countries, the Human Resources Development (HRD) ministry said the negotiations for this were held during the 3rd BRICS Education Ministers meeting and meeting of senior officials in November in Moscow.
The MoU will help in pro-active cooperation among BRICS nations for enhancement of scientific research, higher education, information exchange, analysis and implementation of best practices, joint research programmes, and mobility of students, researchers and educators, the statement added.
