IIT-Delhi Makes Summer Internships Optional to Boost Entrepreneurship
BANGALORE: IIT Delhi is bringing a major change to education in India by breaking their five and half decade old educational tradition. With the increased number of successful startups in the country, IIT Delhi is adapting a new method which allows the students to follow their dreams by making the summer internships an optional affair, reports Economic Times.
In a report the IIT Delhi dean of academics, Anurag sharma stated that, "Aspirations and interests of the students are changing. Not all students now want to go to the industry for training. Many want to try their hands on entrepreneurship. In addition, a few want to pursue higher studies," An increased number of students who are aspiring to become entrepreneurs are the root cause of the historical change in the oldest IIT of the country.
From this year, the IIT Delhi students will have the option either to attend the summer internships or to follow their dream to become an entrepreneur. These internships are indent to place the students in to a well reputed company, thus for securing the future of the students, IIT Madras and IIT Kharangpur are strictly sticking to the tradition.
Apart from the summer internships being optional, IIT Delhi has also introduced interesting options such as live projects in subjects like robotics and design-based learning for the third year students or the freedom to choose any other hobby project after consulting with the faculties.
