IIT-B sees 50 percent rise in job offers

Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, this year saw more students opting for R&D jobs and education related jobs reports Pallavi Smart for DNA. The June 2010-2011 placement report by IIT-B revealed that there was a 50 percent rise in the number of jobs offered and 250 companies (a 33 percent increase) visited the campus. About 286 students from the A-list category were offered a pay package of 8.5 lakh and above per annum and the highest pay package offered was over 25 lakh per annum. Around 16 R&D organizations offered around 70 positions this year. Several IIT-B students were inclined towards a career in government or public sector organizations. Around 45 students were recruited by these organizations while 37 students, including several with a doctorate, were offered jobs by educational institutions. Professor Ravi Sinha, in-charge of placements at IIT-B said that looking at the good response for R&D jobs, the institution is planning to invite more R&D companies, education and public sector companies during the next placement season.
