IIT Roorkee & University of Michigan Organize Leadership for Academician Program (LEAP) for HRD Ministry
Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and University of Michigan join hands to organize a two week world-class training on leadership for academicians programme (LEAP) at Greater Noida. The training will be critical for the development of academic leadership in India, to ensure that participants receive best practices in academic governance, student engagement and innovation in teaching techniques from one of the world’s top universities. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof. S.G Dhande, former Director of IIT Kanpur and Prof. Prem Vrat, former Director, IIT Roorkee was the Guest of Honour at the event. Around 30 participants will be attending the training program.
Commenting on the partnership, Prof. Ajit Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, says, “We launched a comprehensive international search to identify the best business school partner. We selected the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan because of its reputation as a pioneer of real-world learning experiences in multiple locations around the globe”.
Being a unique academic leadership development collaboration, the Ministry of Human Resources, Govt. of India took the initiative to build excellence with the help of trained professionals to build excellence in leadership in Higher Education Institutions in the country. In the three-week program, the first part is of two weeks from 17th November to 29th November at IIT Roorkee’s Greater Noida Extension Centre and second part is at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, USA. Faculty members with at least eight years of experience at the level of professor with age below 58 years and good academic record will attend the program. Participants were selected based on their academic qualification and, eminent experts in the field of education from IITs, IIMs, Universities, Industries and Govt. Departments will be delivering the lectures, panel discussion and case studies at the event.

Started in 1847, IIT Roorkee is an institute of national importance in imparting higher education in engineering, sciences, management architecture and planning. It has been ranked 3rd among the IITs by the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings. It was converted to IIT Roorkee in 2011 and it has played a vital role in providing technical manpower to the country.
