IIT Grads Point Finger At Deceptive Placement System

BANGALORE: Over the last two years, 55 percent graduates of IIT-Bombay that have been placed in various companies changed jobs. On the other hand, the rest 35 percent comprises of those that are contemplating on whether they should stick on, reports the Times of India.
A survey produced by the institutes ‘student media body’ suggests that IIT students are not making the right decision during campus recruitments. Apparently, a majority of the respondents point the finger at the overall placement process of engineering institutes in the country.
It appears that, the colossal pressures that amounts in the last terms, causes students to make rash decisions. Other falters’ reflect on how the system extends its invitation to non-core companies during crucial point of placements that tends to create an illusion that non-core corporation offers the  ultimate “dream jobs.”
According to the latest edition of the students' magazine, a survey was built upon the response of former graduates between the batches of 2011-2013.  The report adds weight to the deceptive placements that lured a good 35 percent of graduates to make the initial jump in their career. A Third of the appellant falls in the category of either moving jobs within a span of three years or quitting it within a year.
"The Day One hype is mainly due to high-paying non-core sector jobs, which most students perceive as (glamorous jobs)," stated the report.
"The placement process is currently aimed at placing a maximum number of students. This has to change to a system where the focus would be more on placing students in the right jobs. A lot of non-core companies come to the campus in the first few days and pick the best of the lot. The institute can, in future, call the core companies before the process begins." an editor of the magazine affirmed.
