Bangalore: Alumni of IIM-A and IITs have started a not-for-profit organization named Association of Indian Students Abroad (AISA) to combat recurring acts of violence against Indian students in foreign countries. The organization will provide a support system to Indians studying abroad. Founding president of AISA, Siddharth Priya said that there was a lack of proper support system for Indian students in foreign countries. "The purpose of setting up AISA is to reach out to Indian students, both studying at present in any foreign university as well as prospective students, for creating a linkage,? added Priya. These organizations also planning to support foreign students visiting India as their numbers are also on a steady rise. This effort will to provide them a feel of multi-cultural Indian society. Priya had gone to ESSEC Business School in Paris under exchange programme during his IIM-A years. Sharing his experience, he said, "Finding out an affordable accommodation was a big hassle for me in Paris. Also, not speaking French language compounded my problems. There was no support system." Globally, Indian students are one of the largest communities studying in countries like Australia, the U.S., UK, New Zealand, Switzerland, Russia, Germany, France, Singapore, and Philippines. Vice-president of AISA, Parth Raval, who is an environment science student at Griffith University in Australia, said, "AISA will have country co-ordinators who will help in networking with Indian student communities in respective countries and will act as contact point for addressing issues related to students. Also campus co-ordinators will keep posting updates on respective campuses thorough website, newsletter and by social networking sites like facebook and twitter."
