IIM Kozhikode Introduces India's First New Doctoral Programme in Management for Working Executives
Good news for the working executives in the country as Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode has introduced a new doctoral programme, PhD in Management (Practice Track) where the working executives with at least eight years of experience can work on a doctoral degree while remaining in their jobs. The newly introduced programme will also allow research specialization in banking, manufacturing, sports or tourism as well along with economics, finance or strategy.
Commenting on this, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, says, “This is the first time in India that we are defining a PhD in the form of a Practice Track. It is an idea whose time has come. While you are in the job you can bring real life problems to your doctoral research for investigation and discover the solutions with the kind of clarity that only a deeply embedded knowledge system can bring”.
Prof. Kaushik Gangopadhyay, Chair of the doctoral programmes, notified that the deadline for online submission of applications on the Institute’s website in June 5th 2019. The programme is designed to make sure that the busy work life of an executive is not affecting their PhD dreams. The Executive Post Graduate Programmes will enrich the skills and strategies to take their organization to the next level round work.
Prof. Rudra Sensarma, Dean (Research), IIM Kozhikode, comments, “The entire program can be completed in 3-5 years and successful PhDs can expect to make meaningful contributions to industry best practices or even seek a shift in career to teaching and research”. With his experience spanning across a broad spectrum of Economics and Finance problems in recent times, he has been focusing on applied work with strong policy orientation.
