Bangalore: At last, there is light at the end of the tunnel for PU failed students. This is because New Shores International College is giving them a golden opportunity to overcome the failure in the same year and progress to undergraduate degree courses.
The ‘Inclusive Education Program’: it enables students to chase their dream degree course as the college helps them sail through the backlogs of II PU/12th standard board exam. The icing on the cake seems to be, while pursuing the degree, the chance to study in a particular summer course on campus at Harvard University or The London School of Economics, and after completing the course successfully, students are issued with certificates from these distinguished institutions. The Founder Director of New Shores International College, Shashidhar Chiron, noted that, “We introduced Inclusive Education Program to bring differently gifted but academically challenged students to the mainstream education, NIOS was the obvious partner for this, as II PU failed students via NIOS can successfully enter formal degree courses under the government Universities”
Looking at the Karnataka Second PUC results that were released in May 2015, it is clear that the condition continues to be terrible. Only 3,69,474 of the total 6,10,323 Lakh students who sat for the examinations, passed. Of concern is the fact that 4,96,000 students sat for the exams as first timers while repeaters were as many as 82,067. The State’s pass rate stood at 60.54 in 2015.
As though that is not enough trouble for the thousands of students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) terminated acknowledgement of all open and distance learning (ODL) programs from Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), past the year 2012-13. The commission has additionally cautioned students against enrolling in KSOU coursed as doing so might imperil their careers. Considering that the KSOU brochure guaranteed that the institution has accreditation from the competent body, lakhs of innocent scholars were deceived into enrolling in the university’s programs. As of November 2015, the reestablishment of accreditation from the University Grants Commission (UGC) was still pending because KSOU was yet to meet specific requirements laid down by the UGC for renewal of accreditation in October.
Being the biggest Open Schooling system in the world, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has come to assume a vital role. NIOS students are entitled to admission in all-India and in state Medical, Engineering and other various competitive examinations such as IIT-JEE, AIEEE and PMT (NEET).
New Shores’ ‘Inclusive Education Program’, which is offered with the NIOS, takes things a notch higher by providing students with access to the best education in the country that other merit students are getting: foreign language programs, international internships, the International study tour to witness business and art in real life in a global setting, and many other programs that expose students to the international environment while they are studying full time degree under Bangalore University.
