Bangalore: In a recent Naukri.com survey 23 percent people said that they would love to work in Hyderabad as opposed to other cities and the February job index saw Hyderabad being most bullish on hiring, with both old and the new job index moving up by 29 percent and 25 percent in Feb 2010 over Jan 2010. The hiring activity for Kolkata picked up by 21 percent in Feb 2010 after two successive months of dip in the index. Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore witnessed a growth in index by 21 percent, 12 percent and 11 percent.
The Naukri Job Speak index for February 2010 reflects renewed optimism among recruiters, thus moving the new job index up to 947 as compared to 808 in January 2010. In February, the job index has soared to an all time high in the last one year as majority of industries, functional areas and all cities have registered an increase in the job index. A similar sentiment is reflected in the old job index as well, where the index moved up by 14 percent in February 2010 over January 2010. The new job index includes the jobs acquired from existing clients by Naukri's tele-calling team.
A year on year comparison of the new job index shows a 14 percent growth in Feb 2010 over Feb 2009 and the old job index also reflects a similar outlook where the index moved up by 10 percent in Feb 2010 over Feb 2009. "The recruitment activity accelerated in Feb 2010 reflecting the underlying strength and positive momentum in the job market. The 'cautious optimism' that pervaded throughout last year and a half has evaporated as most industry sectors are now looking to hire," said Hitesh Oberoi, COO, Info Edge.
A deeper analysis of the hiring activity clearly indicates that all top cities show a positive hiring index with Chennai and Hyderabad moving up more significantly in Feb 2010 over Jan 2010. The recruitment in IT software and ITES sectors has seen rapid growth in hiring for the past four months. Hiring across functional areas has moved up with IT software, Sales and Production witnessing the highest growth.
Telecom sector has witnessed a 27 percent growth in hiring in Feb 2010 over Jan 2010. This is primarily because of the introduction of six to seven major operators in the country. Hiring activity for IT-software and auto sectors moved up by 24 percent and banking and insurance sectors moved up by 14 percent in Feb 2010 over Jan 2010. On an overall level both new as well the old index indicates that most industries are on the track to bounce back to the pre-recession levels.
