Half of Indian Employees Plan to Change Jobs

BANGALORE: About 54 percent of Indian employees are seriously considering leaving their jobs for better opportunities in terms of career and base pay, according to the latest Mercer's survey. This is a substantial jump of 28 percent from 26percent employees planning to change jobs in 2004.
This survey was conducted among more than 2,000 workers in India, in which 58 percent of Women considering leaving, versus 53 percent of men. Around 66 percent of employees under age 24 seriously consider quiting their organization at 82 percent.
Nishchae Suri, MD, Mercer Consulting India told that organization must come up with holistic approach that works on an individual level because there are different age groups who work together in companies and not all benefits work for everyone.
About 25-34 aged group people felt, advancement in career was the top priority, and they were followed by workers in the age group of 35-54 who expressed the same.
Base pay was the second- most important reward segment for employees, and they considered training opportunities as the third most important reward.
Another interesting and important finding from this survey was that 66% of employees want work life balance and 61 percent wanted a flexible work schedule so that they can equally balance their personal and professional commitments.
Employees about 62 percent told that the type of benefits provided was important in their scheme of work and 64% of respondents said the benefits decided their continuation of work in their present organization.
The sectors covered for this survey were IT, ITES, pharma manufacturing, banking and insurance sectors.
