Bangalore: Kal Raman has been hired by Groupon recently, in order to create the organization’s internal controls and processes, which have come under inspection after several mistakes, reports Tricia Duryee of All Things D.

Kal has held the executive position at several top companies like Amazon, eBay and Drugstore.com. He has been appointed as the SVP of Americas, in which he will be in charge of overseeing the company’s operations in the region.

In an answer to the question: In case he was going to act as the organizations’s adult supervision? The 43 year old Kal replied, “It’s not about the age, it’s about the experience,” “I have bought into the online revolution from day one.”He added

For the new job, Kal is expecting to relocate from Seattle to Chicago

Of late Kal founded GlobalScholar, which was obtained early last year by Scantron. He has been performing as eBay’s general manager of Global Fulfillment for the past few months. At Drugstore.com he held the position of the CEO, He has also held executives position at Amazon.

Groupon has come under criticism, after the company was forced to revise its fourth-quarter earnings due to higher than expected returns, therefore, Kal will be responsible for putting into place the company’s processes and internal controls.

Kal was fairly honest in a response to a question about Groupon’s need for stricter controls, according to him it is a problem, he further continued to say, “It’s a high-quality problem to have,” preferable to having a company that “is totally under control and no growth.”He added

Groupon’s CEO Andrew Mason, in a statement said: “Kal brings e-commerce and operational experience to Groupon which will benefit our customers and our merchants as we set out to become the operating system for local business.”
