Government Brings Reforms to Improve Education System in India
BENGALURU: Education has always been in talks of wise minds. While there are many suggestions on board, only a few have been implemented. Quality education plays a significant role in the growth and development of society. Evaluating the present situation of education system in India, the central government has come up with a series of structural reforms to positively affect the current education system comprising of both schools and universities, reports Akshaya Mukul, Economic Times.
The schools have been mandated to display grade-wise learning goals for class I to VIII. The students have also been asked to evaluate the teachers employed. Further, it is proposed to start a new university that trains the teachers. It is speculated that based upon quality, the funding to these reforms will be made through Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). Another major decision made by the govt. is to grade schools and start remedial classes for weaker students, with intermediate national/regional workshops to share best practices.
The modernization of University Grants Commission and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) will be managed by Niti Ayog with much emphasis on the quality of education. The recent meeting Held by PM that included minister Smriti Irani expressed disappointment with UGC/AICTE considering their overall failure as regulators. In this regard, the Niti Ayog has been instructed to propose changes addressing higher (and technical) education concerns. The PM also suggested 800 vocational courses to be included in the course curriculum. There has been no decision on 'no-detention policy' till date but it is planned to continue with Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation.
With cases of proxy teachers working for permanent ones, the schools have been mandated to put photographs of teachers. Moreover, profiles of employed teacher will be linked with Aadhaar. On account of informal teacher ratio in rural and urban areas, a regular transfer of teachers will be made to rural schools.
