Google to Set up New Campus in India, Increase Hiring

BANGALORE: U.S.-based Google is quite enthusiastic about the Indian market, which is considered as one of its tops. It is believed that India will have far greater Android users than U.S. by 2016, reports ET.

U.S.-based Google is likely to put more into India, through recruitment and setting up a new campus, cited Chief Executive Officer Sunder Pichai, calling attention to the significance of the country  in benefiting Google. “Google intends to bring up new campus for engineering presence in Hyderabad and aims at starting production for India,” Pichai said

The Internet giant will also be collaborating with the National Skill Development Council to tutor around 2 million developers across India. To carry out India' digital ambitions, Google aims at offering Wi-Fi connectivity to around 100 railway stations.

“We will be ready to provide free Wi-Fi services at 100 railway stations in India by the end of 2016,” Pichai said.  This will mark Pichai's first visit to India and even his first overseas trip after he became CEO of updated Google in August. Pichai also mentioned the Project Loon, Google's rural internet program, which is set to become a full scale program covering 300,000 villages in India.

According to Google, India stands among the top 5 countries in present times that utilizes offline maps. Jen Fitzpatrick, VP for Maps, Google said, “We are focused on keeping Maps relevant for India.”
