Bangalore: Google, the search engine giant, has predicted that in spite of the economic down turn, Britain can open-up hundreds of thousands of jobs within five years because of a boom in internet business.
Philipp Schindler, the London based vice-president of Google Europe, predicted that 365,000 jobs could be on the cards by 2015.
Schindler, pointing to, 'mega-trends' like smartphones, working via an 'internet cloud' and video and social media, suggested that the government must promote innovation within the sector and encourage businesses to expand and sell their products and services abroad, as the internet seems to be the biggest driver of export opportunity over the next decades.
Internet business may also prompt the possibility for many small and medium-sized businesses to sell their products overseas and it will help them target new markets.
Through a data perspective we can see that the UK exports close to three dollars in internet commerce goods and services for every pound that is imported.
Schindler further said businesses should also understand "mini-trends" if they are to take advantage of online opportunities, pointing towards smartphone technology, "cloud" computing and the use of consumer data.
