Glorified Lies That Recruiters Use To Derail Candidates

4. “We’re Interested, But We’re Still Looking At Other Candidates.”

Recruiters use this phrase when you figure in their back-up plans, or in other words, you are their plan-B. They would have already offered the open position to someone else, but are not sure whether he would accept the offer. Hence they will use you as a cushion and opt for you in case he rejects the offer.

Instead of coming up with such ambiguous phrase, it can be helpful if the recruiters could clearly mention the situation and avoid any uncalled-for complications later.

5. “I Was Given Your Name By A Mutual Contact Who Asked To Remain Confidential…”

This means that they found your information online and they are hiding the truth, just to have a better engagement with you the first time.

Yes, candidates show greater willingness to speak with someone based on referrals, but it doesn’t mean that they should lie. Recruiters should let a candidate know how they developed the information to contact him and start talking straight, which can be helpful in the long run to both the concerned parties.
