India: Once again Indian students shine abroad. This time around four Indian students have been listed among 60 from 29 countries that have been selected for the prestigious Gates Scholarship for post-graduate studies at the Cambridge University. Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students from outside the UK to study at the University of Cambridge. The Gates Cambridge Scholarships is been funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In October 2000 the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $210 million to the University of Cambridge, establishing the Gates Cambridge Trust. This was the largest single donation to a UK university. The Trust manages all aspects of the Gates Cambridge Scholarships programme. The university stated that the students were selected from among the several thousands who applied for the scholarship set up in 2000. It described the winners as "world's most brilliant students." The names of the students who were awarded this glorious award are: Sukrit Silas from Delhi who will study for a Ph.D. in Pathology, Bangalore-born Divya Venkatesh, Raghu Mahajan from Chandigarh who is interested to do Part 3 of the Mathematical Tripos and hopes to go on to do a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics and finally Anand Shrivastava, a product of IIT Madras and hopes to study for an M.Phil in Economics.
