Facebook Offers IIT Grads Rs 1.42-Crore Package

BANGALORE: The number of job offers is flowing this year and at the Indian Institutes of Technology, the social networking giant Facebook offered one-crore plus salary for students. The package is likely to be one of the highest ever made across IITs, so far, reports NDTV.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched his ambitious 'Make in India' campaign to achieve high growth and creation of jobs. The motive of the campaign is to make the country a destination for global manufacturing.

In tune with "Make in India" campaign, the IITs are also encouraging students to choose companies with manufacturing bases in India.

Manufacturing giants like Airbus and GE were seen on the campus of IIT Bombay on  day one of the placements.

Aastha Agarwal, a graduate hired by Facebook said, "One crore may seem like a huge package, but it has many components, some of which may not come to us immediately. The amount the media is reporting is not true."

Three other IIT-Bombay students got the highest pay package of 1.42 crore each, offered by Facebook.

Oracle, Amazon, Cisco, Samsung India and Yahoo Japan are the companies who have visited IIT-Bombay.

In 20 days, more than 1,000 students still to graduate and they are expected to be hired by 350 global firms and already some 100 students have got jobs in just the first two days.

Avijit Chatterjee, professor-in-charge of placements at IIT Bombay said, "On getting an early placement, a student feels special and is committed to the company. The companies basically say that they have tested the students for a longer period and liked them."

Other companies such as Microsoft, IBM and Cisco have offered overseas jobs to students with 80 lakh plus salaries and in India up to 30 lakh.

E Dhivya hired by the Microsoft  said, "It is a dream come true to work in the headquarters of Microsoft."

IIT-Madras however witnessed a dip in salaries for overseas jobs and Facebook did not visit IIT-Madras campus this year.

Professor Babu Viswanathan, placements advisor at the IIT-Madras, said, "It's rare that one company offered high salary last year but overall the packages are good this year."
