Graphic designers design graphic products for use in media and multi-media fields such as magazines, labels, advertising and signage. The typical employers in this field includes advertising agencies, signage companies, brand and identity agencies, large print houses, books / magazines / newspaper publishers, multi-media companies which includes gaming industry, web developers, television and in-house graphic design organizations.
Regrettably, the odds are not in favor of new grads in graphic design, irrespective of their proficiency. New grads have to put up with low starting salaries and super high unemployment rate, which is more than double the unemployment rate for all college grads with a Bachelor’s degree. More drastically, the situation doesn’t improve with time, as even an experienced graphic design grad compete with a high jobless rate, a median salary almost below the norm, and a crowded field with limited advancement opportunities.
