DoT appoints R Chandrashekhar as new Secretary

Bangalore: R Chandrashekhar has been appointed as the full time secretary of Department of Telecom (DoT). Befor taking on the charge, Chandrashekhar was holding the dual charge of secretary Department of Telecommunication (DoT) and Department of Information and Technology (DIT).
Chandrashekhar, who has been associated with the Telecom Ministry since 2002, will hand over the charge of secretary, Department of Information and Technology (DIT) to Shashi Kant Sharma on Friday. Sharma is currently holding the charge of DG (Acquisition), Ministry of Defence.
With 15 years of direct experience in the field of IT at both the State and the Central Government, Chandrashekhar is a 1975 batch Indian Administrative Service officer. He has been the driving force behind formulation of national policies, agendas, strategies and action plans for e-Governance in the country.
On the face of the Telecom Department's sinking image and morale, Chandrashekhar is said to be facing challenges ahead, as his task would include working with Telecom Minister A. Raja who faces a Supreme Court enquiry and a Department which is beset with many unavoidable problems.
