Dell's mobile exec Garriques quits, to stay on as consultant

San Francisco: Ron Garriques, Dell's turnaround man has decided to quit the company in early 2011. He is currently placed as the head of the Dell's mobile communications group. However, Garriques will continue to serve the company as a consultant for rest of 2011.
Garriques will be paid a total compensation of $8.13 million. The payment will be divided in the form of $1.818 million as severance pay and two payments of $3.154 million each on February 2011 and December 2011.
As per a Reuters report, David Frink, Dell's spokesman said that Garriques decided to leave after Dell decided to integrate Garriques' group into the broader company.
Dell recruited Garriques as a high profile hire from Motorola in 2007, when he was in-charge of the newly created consumer division at the PC maker.
According to Dell's filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Garriques will quit Dell effective January 28, 2011 and will offer consulting services from January 31, 2011 through December 31, 2011.
