Country's 11th IIM opens at Trichy

Bangalore: The country's 11th IIM will open today with executive education programmes in Trichy and it will be mentored by IIM-B, the Trichy B-school will function out of the National Institute of Technology campus. The two year post-graduate programme is slated for 2011-12 and also plans to offer short-term executive programmes before this March. The institute has been allotted 196 acres. Until a full-fledged campus is in place, IIM will have classes and hostels at the NIT-Trichy campus. HRD minister Kapil Sibal will lay the foundation stone for IIM Trichy on January 4. IIM Trichy is in talks with three new IIMs at Ranchi, Rohtak and Raipur to devise a strategy to attract quality students through the Common Admission Test (CAT). IIM-B director Prakash Chandra said he would extend all support to the new institute. IIM-B will help in design of academic and administrative processes including programme design. Admission of students and recruitment of faculty and staff will be done by IIM Trichy, he said.
