Bangalore: Technology giant Cognizant has recently rewarded its employees by giving out as much as 200 percent of the variable components of their 2011 pay packages, reports, "The Times of India." Normally, at any company from 20 to 30 percent of an employee salary is termed as variable pay, associated to a combination of overall company performance and individual performance.
"The company has done the repeat of 2010 in rewarding its top performers. The top performers got around 200 percent of their target bonus while the average bonus given was 150 percent. The bonuses were on expected lines as the company has been scoring good quarter on quarter," said a Cognizant employee in Chennai on condition of anonymity.
Shankar Srinivasan, Chief People Officer, Cognizant said "Yes, Cognizant has announced performance-linked bonus payout for all its associates, globally." "Our industry leading revenue growth in calendar 2011 has enabled us to pay performance bonuses well above target."He added.
The Company's bonus comes at a time when Nasscom has predicted moderate revenue growth for software exporters. During February 2012, Nasscom forecasted 11-14 percent growth for India IT-BPO Industry in fiscal 2013, lesser than the 16.7 percent growth that the sector witnessed in the last fiscal.
The Bonus payment indicates that later this year, there is an increasing probability of a good salary hike.
"Even against the backdrop of a volatile economy, we grew our revenue by 33.3 percent over 2010 and added more than 33,500 professionals to our workforce globally," said Shanker. Later he added that Cognizant's staff's attrition rate of 10.1 percent was amid the lowest in the industry.
"We are now eagerly waiting for the wage hike that would happen in May/June this year," said an employee from Cognizant's Chennai campus. "We are positive that it would be the same like the bonuses. If you recall Cognizant was the only company which has promoted 33 percent of its workforce during the calendar year 2011," the employee added.
During 2010, the technology giant turned its revenues by 40 percent and it grew its revenues by 33.3 percent in the year 2011. In both the previous years, Cognizant turned its revenues by 10-15 percent higher than what Nasscom anticipated for the industry.
This year, in spite of a tentative economic environment in key global markets, Cognizant has estimated growth of at least 23 percent. Earlier in the year 2010, the technology giant had guided for 20 percent growth however it had managed to grow by 40 percent that year. The Company guided for 26 percent revenue growth in 2011 and grew 33 percent.
In terms of revenues, only $100 million would separate it from technology giant Infosys, according to Cognizant's guidance. Now the Company's revenue estimate of $1.7 billion is quite close to Infosys' March quarter guidance of $1.80-1.81 billion. Globally Cognizant has over 137,700 employees of which over 1, 00,000 are in India.
