Cisco hires Papermaster after Apple exit

Bangalore: Cisco Systems has hired former Apple Inc senior manager Mark Papermaster, who left which association weeks after it was rocked by the "Antennagate" debate on the ultimate iPhone. Terms of the deal haven't been made public. Cisco said on Friday Papermaster has joined the networking giant as Vice President of its silicon switching technology group. The return to work has come three months after Papermaster was pushed out of his leadership of Device Hardware Engineering at Apple. Company officials never officially confirmed the reasons behind the exit, but insiders claimed it was a clash with Steve Jobs and company culture. Papermaster spent 25 years at IBM before Apple lured him away in 2008. IBM sued Papermaster after his departure, saying he agreed to avoid working for any competitor for a year. A federal court initially barred Papermaster from working for Apple, but the lawsuit was eventually resolved and he began work for Apple in April of 2009. In his new role he will oversee the creation of chips for Cisco's networking switches, an area of the company's business that accounted for a third of its total revenue in the third quarter.
