Cisco exec Tony Bates named Skype CEO

New York: Skype, the internet telephone provider, has appointed Tony Bates as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Bates will join office later this month and will replace Joshua Silverman who had handled the post since early 2008. The Chief Financial Officer of Skype, Adrian Dillon will act as the interim CEO. Bates served as the General Manager of Cisco's enterprise, commercial and small business division and was based in California. For his new job he will shift base to Skype's headquarters in Luxembourg. Spending nearly 15 years in Cisco, Bates was responsible for $20 billion of annual revenue and managed over 12,500 employees across the world. Cisco has shared that its Chief Technology Officer Padmasree Warrior would step into Bates's shoes in the company.
