Campus Hiring- New Success Mantra for BPOs

On being asked about the revolution in the sector, Sangeetha Gupta, Senior Vice-President of Nasscom, said that, "Companies are looking to offer more domain-specific, higher value service such as data analytics or risk-modeling", as reported on the Economic Times. She added that, industry body Nasscom is considering the possibility of renaming the industry as Business Process Management (BPM) as an alternative to BPO, which is generally associated to low-end work. 

The BPO sector currently employs approximately 11 lakh people and is worth $21 Bn ( 1.3 lakh crore).  And it is estimated to grow at a staggering pace, become a $50 Bn worth industry and employ around 18 lakh professionals by the year 2020.   

However, BPOs cannot compete or indulge in large scale hiring as the IT sector, which is 30 lakh strong and has reduced the pace of hiring. Economic slowdown and greater automation are citing as the reasons behind the clampdown of hiring pace in the IT sector. 

Industry experts also issued a warning against campus hiring, especially from top B-schools and other specialized institutions, as it might have a direct impact on the profits garnered by the BPOs.
