Bangalore Boy Picks Princeton Over 6 Other Varsity Offers
BANGALORE: Bangalore boy Srikar Gollapalli who gained prominence with his role in the Swachh Bharat initiative, was offered the red carpet welcome from six top notch universities in U.S. the 23 year old Srikar, chose Princeton for his Masters in Public Administration (MPA).
Two out of the six varsities which includes Princeton, Harvard, Maxwell Institute (Syracuse University), Duke, Georgetown and Carnegie Mellon, showed further interest in the Indian youth by offering to waive his tuition fee and supply aid. The Colgate University graduate will be joining the esteemed Princeton University in September. ToI reports that he would also receive a stipend to meet his daily expenses.
The local lad is an alumnus of National Public School, Rajajinagar, who grew up in BEL Layout, Vidyaranyapur. He then started Working as a fellow researcher at the Public Policy Research Centre (PPRC), New Delhi. Srikar comparative study on 'Politics of Performance' under the guidance of Vinay Sahasrabudde, director, PPRC was released soon after by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Srikar has now teamed up with the Union Government to devise a policy for public sanitation which is a part of the Swacch Bharat Mission.
Srikar who is passionate to study public administration in order to fight powerlessness, says, "there is a need for institutional restructuring in civic agencies to enhance the quality of life of the common citizen, who lacks power. I'm working on eradicating open defecation in India through the Swacch Bharat Mission. India still battles diarrhoea, anaemia and hepatitis - results of open defecation and unhygienic surroundings.”
