Bangalore: The economic slowdown has left many people without a job and they are looking for an opportunity to find any job, no matter what their educational background is. Graduates and engineers comprised about 30 percent of the five lakh candidates, who took up the written tests by Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) to fill 2,500 posts for village panchayat development officers.
The KPSC conducted the written tests across the state, including Bangalore, on Sunday to fill up the posts in rural development and panchayat raj department. Faced with an uncertain future, over 400 IT folks, some also in service, sought refuge in the relatively less paid but more secure government job, reports The Economic Times.
In all, over 10,000 candidates appeared for exams for around 100 posts in each district. The results for the written exam will be announced in 2-3 days and those who pass will be called for an interview.
