What Next For Grads! Masters Degree or Work First?
BENGALURU: To most students out there this summer is probably their graduating time. To most students passing out of their colleges this academic year, is probably the most dreadful time. So what next? is one question that rings in the back of the mind all the time. It is not true that one can get clarity as to which career path to choose soon after their graduation. One important question of all is whether to pursue higher studies or get to work straight away. End result which everyone wishes for is a sustainable career.
Eban Goodstein of Greenbiz.com says “One can certainly find an entry-level work anywhere you wish in with an undergraduate degree, but to pursue a sustainable career one requires a masters degree.” That being said there are other criterias which are deemed important by Goodstein before one makes a decision on what they want to do next.
Goodstein says that a sustainable career is categorized into three wide fields— Education, Policy or Business. Firstly one needs to figure out which one of these career paths suits them the most.
Education includes teachers, professors and researchers along with journalists, artists and film-makers who strive to bring about change through education.
Policy is a field that interests those who are keen on “changing the rules,” mostly bureaucratic in nature. Policy makers are the back bones of any organization, profitable or non-profitable.
Business is needless to explain. Entrepreneurs or those interested in ‘playing-the-game,’ this is your field.
